Problem
Traditional methods of manufacturing lightweight vehicle body structures and components using carbon fiber are often expensive and generate significant waste, hindering the adoption of lightweighting strategies in automotive and construction industries. Existing composite manufacturing processes struggle to meet the volume and cost requirements for high-volume applications.
Solution
WEAV3D offers a patented composite forming technology that integrates weaving and composite consolidation into a single, automated process, significantly reducing waste, cycle time, and material handling costs. The core of the technology is a woven composite lattice reinforcement called Rebar For Plastics®, produced from unidirectional, fiber-reinforced composite tapes. These custom lattice structures are then overmolded into a finished structural component using conventional molding processes. By tuning the weave density, tape materials, and number of layers, the mechanical properties of the component can be locally tuned to meet application-specific targets. This approach enables the production of lightweight structural components with improved strength, stiffness, and energy absorption at a reduced cost compared to traditional composite methods.
Target Audience
The primary target audience includes automotive OEMs and tier 1 suppliers seeking lightweight solutions for vehicle components, as well as manufacturers of utility products and construction accessories looking for economical polymer concrete solutions.
