Cartilage has a limited capacity for self-repair when damaged, frequently leading to osteoarthritis if left untreated. Current treatments often fail to fully regenerate cartilage tissue, resulting in persistent pain and limited joint function.
Solution
Vanarix has developed Cartibeads™, bio-engineered cartilage grafts designed to regenerate cartilage damage and target focal lesions and early osteoarthritis. Cartibeads™ are designed to resemble native articular cartilage and integrate completely with the native environment. A First-In-Man study with Autologous Cartibeads™ (made from the patient’s own cells) has shown initial safety and efficacy in treating knee cartilage lesions. A First-In-Man study to treat knee cartilage lesions with Allogeneic Cartibeads™ (made from donor cells) is ongoing; these grafts are produced on-demand and do not require tissue compatibility.
