The approach involves delivering boron-10 drugs that are selectively absorbed by cancer cells. Subsequently, the tumor is irradiated with a low-energy neutron beam, causing the boron atoms to react with the neutrons and emit alpha particles. These alpha particles destroy tumor cells with minimal damage to surrounding healthy tissue, potentially achieving effective tumor control within one to two treatment sessions. The Alphabeam™ Neutron System provides an in-hospital accelerator-based neutron source.
