Despite the 2006 SAFE Port Act mandating the scanning of all shipping containers for nuclear and radiological threats before entering U.S. ports, current domestic ports rely on older radiation monitors that only scan containers when leaving U.S. ports, leaving the nation vulnerable to threats. Less than 5% of incoming ocean containers are scanned for nuclear/radiation threats. Unscanned ocean containers expose port workers and surrounding urban neighborhoods to the risk of radiological/nuclear materials or devices.
Solution
Safe Port Terminals (SPT) provides a radiation detection platform designed to scan 100% of ocean containers for radiation before they reach U.S. soil, addressing the gap in current port security measures. SPT's technology aims to secure ports from nuclear and radiological threats by implementing a state-of-the-art detection system. This system modernizes port security by scanning incoming containers, a process not fully implemented despite existing mandates. By scanning all containers, SPT aims to protect port workers and urban areas from the risks associated with undetected radiological materials.
