Osmosys Technologies provides membrane-based brine concentration systems that replace energy-intensive thermal evaporation for high-salinity industrial and municipal wastewater. Its MemBrine Concentrator™ platform concentrates streams to 280,000 mg/L TDS on standard reverse-osmosis equipment at 5–12 kWh/m³, compared to 25–60 kWh/m³ for evaporators. The company has a commercial reference treating 10,800 m³/day of municipal brine for the King Salman Park project in Riyadh.

Problem
Evaporation is the most expensive way to remove water from a stream, consuming 25 to 60 kWh/m³ of water removed. Industrial and municipal facilities facing discharge permits, disposal costs, or mineral recovery targets have had no membrane option above roughly 90,000 mg/L TDS, forcing reliance on thermal systems with high energy and capital costs.
Solution
Osmosys Technologies delivers the MemBrine Concentrator™ (MBC™), a membrane brine concentration platform that carries streams from dilute feed to 280,000 mg/L TDS on standard reverse-osmosis membranes and pressure vessels. The platform operates in staged lanes—SEBRO™ for dilute brines, SAMRO™ for mid-range adaptive desalination, and MBC™ for the 90,000–280,000 mg/L range—at 5–12 kWh/m³ specific energy. The system integrates with crystallizers only for the residual flow, reducing the thermal step to a fraction of the original volume. Osmosys provides process design, pilot testing on the customer's actual water, equipment supply, commissioning, and optional long-term operation, achieving 99%+ overall water recovery across the full zero-liquid-discharge train.
Target Audience
Primary customers are municipal utilities, industrial facilities, and EPC contractors managing high-salinity wastewater, zero-liquid-discharge requirements, or brine minimization for discharge permits and mineral recovery, particularly in the GCC and Europe.
Features
- MBC™ concentrates brine to 220,000–280,000 mg/L TDS using standard RO membranes and pressure vessels, eliminating the need for exotic alloys or bespoke elements
- Specific energy of 5–12 kWh/m³ for MBC™ versus 25–60 kWh/m³ for thermal brine concentration, with SAMRO™ achieving 0.48 kWh/m³ on seawater
- Three-stage platform (SEBRO™, SAMRO™, MBC™) covers the full salinity range from dilute feed to crystallizer-ready brine on a single train without thermal handoff
- SAMRO™ operates adaptively across 20,000–90,000 mg/L with dual permeate streams and no interstage boosting, handling fouling and chemically difficult feeds
- Commercial reference: 10,800 m³/day municipal brine train at King Salman Park treating 36,772 mg/L TDS feed to 200,000+ mg/L with 82% water recovery and 70% smaller footprint
- Asset-light delivery model with in-house process design and performance assurance, using qualified fabrication and construction partners near project sites
