Problem
Current methods for monitoring organ function often rely on invasive procedures or infrequent lab tests, limiting the ability to detect subtle changes in real-time, especially in critical care settings. Existing technologies may also lack the sensitivity to identify early indicators of organ dysfunction, potentially delaying necessary interventions and impacting patient outcomes.
Solution
MediBeacon has developed a system that utilizes fluorescent tracer agents and a transdermal optical sensor to continuously monitor organ function. The system detects changes in the levels of the fluorescent tracer agent over time via a sensor placed on the patient’s skin, displaying this information in real-time. This technology enables clinicians to gain insights into organ function without the need for invasive procedures, allowing for more timely and informed clinical decision-making. The initial application is the Transdermal GFR (tGFR) system, engineered to allow detection of the change in levels of a fluorescent GFR tracer agent over time via a sensor placed on the patient’s skin. The TGFR Monitor displays this information in the form of a transdermal GFR (tGFR) which may be useful in the understanding of kidney function.
Target Audience
The primary target audience includes clinicians in intensive care units and operating rooms, as well as researchers in preclinical nephrology.
