Problem
Avalanche victims often succumb to asphyxiation due to being buried under the snow, even if they avoid traumatic injuries. Traditional avalanche airbag backpacks focus primarily on preventing burial, but do not address the critical need for breathable air while buried. This significantly reduces the survival window for victims awaiting rescue.
Solution
KissOfLife (KOL) has developed an avalanche airbag backpack that integrates a supplemental breathing system, providing a supply of breathable air to the user when buried under snow. The KOL Airbag Backpack features an electric Alpride E2 system, eliminating the need for cartridges and allowing for multiple deployments via recharging. In the event of an avalanche, the user pulls a handle to activate the airbag and then bites on the handle to access the air supply inside the backpack. This system provides over 90 minutes of breathable air, mitigating CO₂ buildup and significantly increasing the chances of survival. The backpack is designed to feel like a standard freeride pack, ensuring comfort and mobility without compromising safety.
Target Audience
The primary target audience includes freeride skiers, snowboarders, and other backcountry enthusiasts who require enhanced avalanche safety equipment.
