Problem
Poland faces challenges in meeting EU recycling targets for beverage containers, leading to increased landfill waste and environmental pollution. Existing waste management systems lack the efficiency to capture a high percentage of recyclable beverage containers.
Solution
Kaucja.pl is establishing a nationwide deposit return system (DRS) in Poland to incentivize the return of used beverage containers for recycling. The system places a deposit on single-use plastic bottles (up to 3 liters), reusable glass bottles (up to 1.5 liters), and aluminum cans (up to 1 liter). Consumers receive a refund of the deposit when they return empty containers to designated collection points, including stores and automated reverse vending machines. This DRS aims to significantly increase recycling rates, reduce litter, and promote a circular economy by ensuring that collected materials are processed into new packaging.
Target Audience
The primary users are beverage producers and importers required to participate in the deposit return system, retailers serving as collection points, and consumers who purchase and return eligible beverage containers.
