Problem
The increasing demand for energy necessitates the exploration of alternative fuel sources to mitigate reliance on fossil fuels and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Traditional biofuel production methods often compete with food production and may not efficiently convert diverse waste streams into usable energy.
Solution
Grinol GmbH offers a two-stage Bio Activated Fuel (BAF) process that converts biogenic waste materials, including biomass and oil-bearing residues, into climate-neutral fuels suitable for use in combined heat and power plants (CHP). The BAF technology utilizes pyrolysis to separate biomass into biochar and pyrolysis gas. The pyrolysis gas then reacts with hot oil from waste materials in the BAF reactor, cracking the oil at lower temperatures than conventional methods. This process yields a product gas that is condensed into an oil fraction and a diesel-water fraction, both of which can be stored and used as fuel in CHP plants. The remaining gas is also converted into electrical energy and heat within the CHP plant.
Target Audience
Grinol's primary customers include operators of combined heat and power plants, waste management companies seeking to valorize waste streams, and organizations looking for sustainable energy solutions.
