Problem
Spacecraft and missile systems require highly reliable separation and release mechanisms that function in extreme environments where failure is not an option. Traditional pyrotechnic devices generate high shock loads that can damage sensitive payloads, and non-explosive alternatives often lack the preload capacity, simultaneity, or flight heritage needed for critical missions.
Solution
EBAD provides a family of payload release modules (PRM™) and hold-down release mechanisms designed for satellite, missile, and launch vehicle applications. The NEA® PRM™ integrates a load-carrying interface, separation springs, and a bolt extractor into a turnkey dispensing mechanism that carries high tensile preloads until electrically commanded to release. Using a non-explosive spool-and-restraint-wire design with redundant fuse wires, the device provides ultra-low shock release with high simultaneity across multiple hold-down points. The PRM™ has been fully qualified for 4-point spacecraft dispensing applications and successfully deployed spacecraft on multiple SpaceX Falcon 9 rideshare missions.
Target Audience
Primary customers are satellite manufacturers, launch vehicle integrators, and defense contractors who need qualified, flight-proven separation and release systems for spacecraft dispensing, stage separation, and missile payload deployment.
