Problem
Electric vertical take‑off and landing (eVTOL) and short‑take‑off aircraft require propulsion systems with exceptionally high power‑to‑weight ratios. Conventional radial‑flux motors and multiple motor installations add significant mass, limiting range, payload, and overall vehicle efficiency.
Solution
AXYAL Propulsion delivers next‑generation yokeless axial‑flux electric motors optimized for aerospace applications. By eliminating the stator yoke, the design shortens magnetic flux paths, reduces iron losses, and minimizes overall motor weight. The axial‑flux geometry provides a cubic increase in torque with diameter, delivering higher torque density than radial‑flux alternatives. Integrated cooling (liquid or air) and concentrated rectangular copper windings further improve thermal performance and reduce copper losses. The motor can be offered as a single unit or stacked for power multiplication, with optional direct‑drive or integrated planetary reduction gearboxes, allowing manufacturers to tailor power, voltage, and form factor to specific eVTOL/eSTOL designs. Combined with an 800 V SiC inverter, the system achieves up to 230 kW continuous output while operating propellers at low RPM to reduce noise.
