Problem
Bitcoin holders seeking to generate yield on their holdings often face complex DeFi integrations and potential risks associated with non-custodial asset management. Traditional methods for earning yield on Bitcoin can involve bridging to other networks, which introduces counterparty risk and requires users to manage multiple asset types.
Solution
Acre provides a platform for Bitcoin holders to earn yield through automated, Bitcoin-native compounding strategies. The system facilitates the bridging of BTC to EVM-compatible networks using a decentralized custodian, tBTC, which is secured by a multisig operated by decentralized nodes. Once bridged, the BTC is deployed via the Acre Dispatcher smart contract to vetted DeFi protocols, such as lending and liquidity bootstrapping networks, to generate returns. Users maintain self-custody of their underlying Bitcoin, with all transactions and asset movements being transparent and auditable on-chain. The protocol is designed to keep users' assets in BTC throughout the yield generation and redemption process.
